Hi all,
i ran into a problem when trying serial over USB and PC Driver installation:
Setup:
OS: chibiOS 2.4.3 - just downloaded today
HW: Old STM3210B eval board (i arranged PIN/PORTs for USB switch and LEDs - testet OK)
Project: Taken over form 2.4.3 testhal, IAR, STM32F103VBT6
Compiles OK
Problem:
When connecting USB, Windows XP asks for Driver. I downloaded the ST Driver from www.st.com today (version V1.3.1 - 07/23/2010).
Upon PC driver installation, i get the following error message (it recognizes "chibiOS/RT Virtual COM port"):
"
An error occurred during installation of the device
A service installation section in the INF file is invalid.
"
What am i missing? Is the ST Driver the right one at all?
Any help is appreciated!
Best regards
- Giovanni: Great work!

Re: PC ST Virtual Com Port installation error
Hi,
Under Windows you can use the driver that is included with ST-Link or you can just use the .inf file attached here.

Hi Gionanni,
I tried your OEM driver from the zip file - same error message again.
I'll search for the problem on my side, and will report.
BTW - the signed ST driver form from web search gives the same result.
Many thanks for the immediate reply & happy new year to ALL

Re: PC ST Virtual Com Port installation error
Could you try to change USB port? you could also uninstall the driver and do the installation procedure again on another port. It is possible the problem is something like an HUB or an USB3 port that is giving trouble.
... and happy new year to you too

Hi Giovanni,
it seems to be a problem with my computer (Windows XP - no hub - no USB3 - none of the USB ports does it - maybe spoiled by heavy development activities?)!
I tried on a different machine - and driver installation worked without any problem (Windows 7 and driver from Windows Update - automatic install).
I'm sorry for the confusion i created.
I appreciate your help.
Best regards to all

Hi all!
Just to round things up: the file usbser.sys was missing or corrupted on my PC (the *.inf file relates to it). After repairing from original CD everything is up and running now.
Many thanks for the support.
