My build script was including ports/cmsis_os which was requiring the configuaration flags
Fixed it and we are now building minimal.
Will look at your nil looks very interesting

Just to make sure deleted my previous git repositiory and recloned.

Got the same problem. Then I looked at the git repository history and the last commit was 5 October.

Your SVN repo has its last commit as 2014/11/17

I was trying to do a minimal build for ChibiOS V3.x by turning off all the option in the chconf.h file and all the perohperals in halconf.h and found that some options are mandatory:

#define CH_CFG_USE_MESSAGES TRUE
#define CH_CFG_USE_EVENTS TRUE

Setting CH_CFG_USE_MESSAGES -> FALSE

gives the ...
