Just a suggestion regarding qeiUpdate(), wouldn't it make more sense to return a signed type?
The problem is that when you turn the encoder the other side, you will get a delta of the order of 65xxx.

Although i'm not using Ubuntu, i tried with the last version of GCC (4.8.1) and it worked out of the box... sorry for bothering you.
For future reference on Archlinux, try using thoses packages:

Unhandled exception when printing float using chprintf
Hi,
I am using ChibiOS 2.6.0 on a stm32f4-discovery board using gcc-4.7.2 .
I'm trying to print a float using chprintf function, but for an unknown reason, it throws an unhandled_exception.
What i've done:
config/chconf.h
#define CORTEX_USE_FPU TRUE
Makefile
UDEFS = -DCHPRINTF_USE ...
