Spansion 16FX Port

Postby logan54 » Fri Aug 22, 2014 10:20 am

Hello Giovanni,

I've an unoptimized Spansion 16FX Port for the sk-16fx-100pmc evaluation (http://www.spansion.com/products/microcontrollers/pages/tool-detail-sk-16fx-euroscope.aspx) board from Fujitsu running. The benchmark output is given in the attached file.
+ Is this a sufficient approval for the correct implementation of the port, or do you use further methods (static code analysis, white box tests,...) to reach a certain level of stability
+ What is the correct url to a repository for uploading this port (I use Subversion!)

regards

Hi Logan,

New ports are accepted as long there are maintainers willing to support them, you can see this in the forum. If ports can stay in the long term depend on various factors:
- Continuous commitment.
- Good feedback.
- Interest around the port.

About the project repository, there are options:
1) You open your own sub-project with your own subversion repository, the main repository will link to your repository, see the SPC5xx port for this. /os/hal/ports/SPC5xx is just a link to the SPC5-HAL project.
2) You make a git repository with a copy of the main repository plus your code, the repository is then advertised on chibios.org and on the forum. Many prefer git so it is a good option depending on your preferences.
3) You work directly on the main repository but this could create problems, especially if the port is not yet mature,

Hello Giovanni,

i don't plan to have this port in the main trunk, because porting also the driver architecture to chibiOS would eat up quite some resources. Also i added some minor changes in your header files to take care for the different memory models of this port.
+ I wanted to create a branch under http://svn.code.sf.net/p/chibios/svn/branches/various but subversion refused the write access, how can I make the port public despite posting just zip files?

Hi,

if there are changes into the portable layers then it cannot be merged, are you sure this is really required? the system has been ported to a lot of architectures already.

About the repository, you could open a project on SF or github, we could open a dedicated forum here so it would have visibility.

Write access to repository is not open to everybody of course.

I will open a forum over the weekend, you may simply upload everything as attachment.

Done, let's see how this goes. Don't expect much activity initially, it takes time and largely depends on you :)
