STM32F072 -> Serial access for USART 3/4?

Post by charlesrwest »

Hello,

I've been doing a project with the STM32F072B Discover board. I was planning to try out the serial interface for USART 4 on the board but it looks like SD4 was not defined.

I looked in mcuconf.h to see if I could enable it, but it looks like there is only support for USART 1/2?

Code: Select all

/*
 * SERIAL driver system settings.
 */
#define STM32_SERIAL_USE_USART1             TRUE
#define STM32_SERIAL_USE_USART2             FALSE
#define STM32_SERIAL_USART1_PRIORITY        3
#define STM32_SERIAL_USART2_PRIORITY        3

If I may ask, is this a bug (wrong number of usarts) or is there something about USART 3/4 that makes it so that they shouldn't be used with the serial interface?

Thanks,
Charlie West

P.S.
Random aside... Does anyone know if the stm32f072 can draw power from USB directly? It's been my understanding that the USB bus is 5 volts but all of the power connections I see are 3.3 volts. Does this mean that the chip needs additional components (linear regulator or buck/boost) to be able to draw power from the USB bus?

Hi,

UART4 is supported, just add the switch to mcuconf.h.

You need a regulator for USB power, you may look at the nucleo board schematic.
