Apparently it works this way, I would poll with a read request, this way you can also have a read-for-verify for free.

I implemented that last night and works perfectly! Well, if anyone else is trying to use the 24LCXX EEPROM I2C, hopefully this information will help them not make the same mistakes I did, and is a good reminder to REALLY read the datasheet. Wish the FRAMs weren't so expensive because they are so much easier to work with than the EEPROMs. (Or, at least these ones).
