STM32F4 Discovery FPU Support

Post by thomash505 »

Hey all,
Found ChibiOS by accident but as it turns out it is perfectly suited to my application. However, I will be requiring hardware FPU support (as I will be doing a large amount of Matrix operations via Eigen). After modifying the makefile (see attached) to include FPU support I get the following error message:

Code: Select all

Which from what I can tell is the assembler not understanding that "vmsr FPSCR, r2" is a valid assembly instruction (which it is as far as I can tell from here at page 165).

Question is how can I fix this/is it a known problem?

Thanks, Thomas.

Hi,

This could be a problem with the compiler, what toolchain are you using? you may give a try to ChibiStudio, a pre-built Eclipse IDE with everything included.

Hi,
Thats what I was expected (compiler problem). I downloaded ChibiStudio last night and will give it a go when I get home - I am using CodeSourcery as my toolchain.

Thanks, Thomas.

Hi together,

CodeSourcey hast only SoftFPU support. For HardFPU they want not to less hard money.
With ChibiStudio u should be good to go.

I downloaded a more up to date version of CodeSourcery (my version was from 2011) and it compiled straight away.
Also have installed ChibiStudio and had a brief look, but since my eclipse install is working again i've stuck to that.
Does ChibiStudio come with a GDB debugger already setup for the STM32F4 Discovery? I don't have any hardware debugging at the moment (I tried a few months back and got stuck somewhere) and this would be a huge incentive for me to start using ChibiStudio as my IDE.

What are you saying? That CodeSourcery doesn't implement Hardware FPU at all? I find that hard to believe considering the error I was getting was related to an FPU specific instruction...

Thanks,

ChibiStudio includes OpenOCD as GDB server, it allows debugging.
