hardware timer

Hi, i read that stm32f4 discovery have several timers and watchdog hardware unit. i need a timer hardware support that execute some code periodically (for example a hardware timer properly initialized that generate an interrupt and an ISR that execute some code). I am reading GPT driver but i don't understand if it use hardware.
my question is: can i program a timer that periodically generate an interrupt and execute a specific ISR?
