I did try adding the correct phy code in mii.c and the code no longer halted, but it did not work either.
I will look into this further.

LAN8710A-EZC MAC phy on Olimex STM32 E407 Rev E
We've been using Chibios 2.4.0 on the Olimex E407 with an STM32F4 and the KS8271 MAC phy for many months with no problems.
The latest E407 boards (Rev E) use the LAN 8710A-EZC MAC phy which does not appear to be compatible with the KS8271.
I can't find any Chibios driver code for the LAN 8710A-EZC ...
