We've been using Chibios 2.4.0 on the Olimex E407 with an STM32F4 and the KS8271 MAC phy for many months with no problems.
The latest E407 boards (Rev E) use the LAN 8710A-EZC MAC phy which does not appear to be compatible with the KS8271.
I can't find any Chibios driver code for the LAN 8710A-EZC, and it does not seem to be compatible with any of the four existing MAC phy types supported by Chibios.
Is there a Chibios drivver for this phy, or do I need to write one?
Many thanks on advance!
Craig

Hi,
Probably it is just matter of creating new board files specifying the correct ID for the new PHY, without a board I cannot verify. PHYs should all have the same basic registers.
Note that even if your PHY is not specified in mii.h you can simply specify the hex value in board.h.

I did try adding the correct phy code in mii.c and the code no longer halted, but it did not work either.
I will look into this further.
Thanks for the info.

Hello Craig
Looking at the examples provided with the STM32L4Discovery, which has the same PHY, they use the DP83848I.
Don't know if this works yet as I have copied the Olimex E407 LWIP example and haven't worked out which file to change to make up for the 25MHz to 8MHz difference.
(If anybody knows please let me know
)
I'll let you know if it works, or if anybody with lan working on the STM32L4Discovery could tell you.
I forgot to say using the STM32F4DIS-BB 'baseboard'

Re: LAN8710A-EZC MAC phy on Olimex STM32 E407 Rev E
I have also Olimex E-407 rev.E. I added define to mii.h:
and I changed PHY type in board.h:
After rebuild ARMCM4-STM32F407-LWIP-FATFS-USB demo working without problems (tested only ethernet).
Code: Select all
#define MII_LAN8710A_ID 0x0007C0F1and I changed PHY type in board.h:
Code: Select all
#define BOARD_PHY_ID MII_LAN8710A_IDAfter rebuild ARMCM4-STM32F407-LWIP-FATFS-USB demo working without problems (tested only ethernet).

Billy,
Many thanks for this help. I thought I had made these same changes, but I must have done something wrong.
Everything is now working just great!
