Stack overflow STM32L151

Post by Pieter »

I want to compile chibios for a stm32L151 microprocessor. I use is the last version from svn (trunk: revision 5591) of chibios.

I tried to run the ARMCM3-STM32L152-DISCOVERY demo project but after the fist context switch the eclipse debugger gave an error stack overflow. After this I changed the main.c code to:

Code: Select all

#include "ch.h"
#include "hal.h"
#include "test.h"

/*
 * Application entry point.
 */
int main(void) {

  /*
   * System initializations.
   * - HAL initialization, this also initializes the configured device drivers
   *   and performs the board-specific initializations.
   * - Kernel initialization, the main() function becomes a thread and the
   *   RTOS is active.
   */
  halInit();
  chSysInit();

  while (TRUE) {
    chThdSleepMilliseconds(5);
  }
}

sadly the fist time the program calls sleep. The debugger stops again with a stack overflow.

In mcuconf.h I disabled the LSE because my board does not have an external crystal.

Code: Select all

#define STM32_NO_INIT                       FALSE
#define STM32_HSI_ENABLED                   TRUE
#define STM32_LSI_ENABLED                   TRUE
#define STM32_HSE_ENABLED                   FALSE
#define STM32_LSE_ENABLED                   FALSE
#define STM32_ADC_CLOCK_ENABLED             TRUE
#define STM32_USB_CLOCK_ENABLED             TRUE
#define STM32_MSIRANGE                      STM32_MSIRANGE_2M
#define STM32_SW                            STM32_SW_PLL
#define STM32_PLLSRC                        STM32_PLLSRC_HSI
#define STM32_PLLMUL_VALUE                  6
#define STM32_PLLDIV_VALUE                  3
#define STM32_HPRE                          STM32_HPRE_DIV1
#define STM32_PPRE1                         STM32_PPRE1_DIV1
#define STM32_PPRE2                         STM32_PPRE2_DIV1
#define STM32_MCOSEL                        STM32_MCOSEL_NOCLOCK
#define STM32_MCOPRE                        STM32_MCOPRE_DIV1
#define STM32_RTCSEL                        STM32_RTCSEL_LSI
#define STM32_RTCPRE                        STM32_RTCPRE_DIV2
#define STM32_VOS                           STM32_VOS_1P8
#define STM32_PVD_ENABLE                    FALSE
#define STM32_PLS                           STM32_PLS_LEV0

One thing I noticed, is that after the call to the function chSysInit(). The chibios debugger plugin shows a stack overflow for the main thread. With a STM32F4 the eclipse plugin also shows a stack overflow for the main thread after chSysInit() but after the fist call to chThdSleepMilliseconds(5) the stkUnused is suddenly valid and the program does not stop.

Hi,

I will look into this in the evening, did you try to increase the stack size for the main thread? also, what debug options do you have enabled in chconf.h?

Hi Giovanni

I changed all the debug options to TRUE.

I changed in STM32L152xB.ld __main_stack_size__ from 0x0400 to 0x0800 and after this to 0x0F00. It didn't help.
I also increased __process_stack_size__ from 0x0400 to 0x0800. It also didn't help.

Which compiler are you using? I would not rule out a problem with the toolchain.

Hi,

I tested the STM32L-Discovery demo from the repository but I am unable to reproduce the problem, it just worked. Is it possible something is wrong with your toolchain setup?

You could try to use ChibiStudio and see it solves your problem: http://sourceforge.net/projects/chibios ... ibiStudio/
