This why I specified "directly" and the reason why I put like 90% of my bandwidth on its development

ChibiOS/RT is an excellent kernel in itself but probably it would have gone unnoticed without the HAL.
About the defects, mainly this happens in the low level drivers (almost never in the RT or high level HAL), my analysis is that it is caused by the continuous reworks dictated by the introduction of newer STM32 sub-families and contributed parts.
Going forward, the community repository will be a stage for new code, I am thinking to contribute myself, a necessary step before allowing new code in the main repository which should always represent a reliable core of well tested functionalities.
The version 3.0 is also an attempt at stabilization, the clean-up of certain internal interfaces should guarantee less regressions in the existing code when new platforms are added. Layers are much better defined and this should greatly help isolating the new code from the stabilized one.
I for one ended up using ST chips thanks to the excellent support in ChibiOS
I know they don't care. I am supporting STM32 because:
1) Discovery kits.
2) I developed experience on it.
3) I need a preferential platform for HAL development.
4) It is "generic" enough, I saw much more weirdness in other families.
5) We built momentum on it.
