Chibistudio

Post by Arduino+ »

Hello,

I have been interested in chibios over past couple of years while working on ardiuno/teensy projects. It looks very well organized, streamlined and powerful. The reason i never used it because i wasn't sure how to setup the environment. Then i saw you came out with chibios studio, great i thought (except for the eclipse part). I downloaded the studio, watched some videos. The code builds like a dream, very slick. The problems I have uad are all related to debugging and flashing the board. Eclipse has too many features. I don't want to spend all day learning about them. In a way, it seems like the anticident to what chibios is supposed to be. It would be nice if you could make more videos about the flashing and debugging. It also would be nice if the ide interface was simplified, making it easier to use. Similar to the setup in coide. I am working on a stm32f429, if anybody has some pointers on the flashing and debugging, please let me know. I am using the stlink v2 to prgram the board. On a win7 mach.

Hi,

Try http://www.playembedded.org

There are a lot of video tutorials about ChibiOS and ChibiStudio.

About Eclipse, it as way too many features but you can ignore most of them, what you really need is not much, note that you can customize toolbars and hide what you don't use.

Thanks, but those are the videos I watched. I watched the one with debugging again. Not very helpful. They should foxus in on how to setup a run configuaration. Next explain more about the debug configurations. Next I think they should explain what the heck is goinging on in the debug pane. What is the server etc. Wrap it up with a run, debug on a usb serial hello world. Keep it simple. Then i would make videos about different topics like spi, i2c...etc. Keep the stuff simple to let people get familar with the eclipse beast. Plus, i think they should tone down the goofy music.
Plus slow down in video, i had to keep rewinding to see what what button was pressed. Oh and about what you said, yes i understand, but the problem is, i dont know what to ignore. I will look at the toolbar custumization though.

I found a simple example on how to setup a run config. 3 lines of text and i got it. Plus i got a basic understanding of debug in the videos. I got a few of the examples to work, so then i tried the example that i was really interested in, usb cdc for stm32f4xx. I wasnt able to get it to work. I suspect that your code works, so perhaps it is a driver issue? That uses otg hs in fs mode right? I think it does because windows said devie is unknown. Is there a place in chibistudio to put defines. In coide i had to put HSE_VALUE=8000000, to set the proper frequency for usb. Maybe that is the issue?

Thanks

Hi,

Debug configurations are all equal, you can just clone it from another project and it will work.

Explaining details about Eclipse, GDB or OpenOCD would be nice, I agree, however there is documentation for this.

About the music, I agree...

Usually the USB code is very not-critical and works in a lot of different demos. USB not working could depend on various things, like:
1) HW problems (wiring, connectors, hubs, cables: all of this already happened...).
2) Clock setup, the USB must get exactly 48MHz.
3) I/O pins setup.
