Currently the HAL is not completely standalone in that it has implicit dependencies on external (to the HAL) components which are licensed GPL.
For example, the HAL-STM32F407-DISCOVERY demo brings in files on os/common/ports (startup assembly, linker scripts, vector table) which are licensed GPL.
Are there any plans to move these components into the HAL?

Re: License of HAL dependencies
HAL does not have dependencies on them, you can use any startup file, anyway, I think I will move startup files to Apache license.

Re: License of HAL dependencies
Hi,
All startup files are now licensed under Apache 2.0 in trunk and branches 3.0.x and 16.1.x.
