chibios site is inaccessible via VPN
Hi, I cannot access to chibios site when I'm connecting via VPN. Website doesn't load at all. No warning no captchas. I'm okay with captchas. I'm a master of captchas by now : ) For some of us, VPN is essential for a proper internet connection. Git protocol access is always disabled in my university connection, last weekend github was banned nationwide. I can disable my VPN for accessing chibios but its a nuisance that I hope can be addressed. Thank you.

Hi,
Not sure how to fix this, I am able to access the site and forum through my corporate VPN.
Is it the web site or the forum? the forum does have some IP ranges banned because spam.

Re: chibios site is inaccessible via VPN
Hi,
What country are you at? What VPN service are you using? What location for the servers?
I was in China 3 weeks ago and chibios.org and github were still working without VPN. Also using ExpressVPN or shadowsock everything worked. shadowsock is really great if you have access to a VPS like digital ocean / linode / OVH to be able to run your own server.
Cheers,
Fabio Utzig

It was both website and forum.
Interestingly at the moment I can access via VPN. I'm using PIA. I think my IP has changed. I note my IP address next time I have problem.

Re: chibios site is inaccessible via VPN
I got it again. This time I noted the IP address.
blocked: 46.166.188.232
After I disconnected, and re-connected to VPN, I wasn't blocked and my IP was this:
not blocked: 46.166.190.222
I've tried it a couple times to make sure problem is related to that IP address above.
By the way I figured out that I can set gateway address as IP, so that I get the same IP from the VPN everytime I connect.
@utzig I think you misunderstood, I had connection problems when connection with VPN. Chibios site itself isn't blocked in my connection other services are, that's why I have use VPN.

Hi,
That IP is not banned on our side, we ban only forum access anyway. It must be something else.

I think this is what happens:
* using a VPN means that reaching the internet, once inside the VPN, is done through a proxy.
* the intranet accessed through the VPN has at least 2 proxies.
* everyone inside the VPN uses one or more of these proxies.
* somebody using the proxy is infected with malware.
* the actions taken by the malware are seen as originating from the proxy in use.
* the proxy gets blacklisted on some generic blacklist used by the hosting provider.
* whenever one from inside the intranet is assigned the blacklisted proxy, access is blocked.
The solution is to force the proxy to be one that is not (yet?) blacklisted.
