It is a good idea designing the board thinking to your board.h at the same time and test often on some dev board like the Discovery. This can save redesigns and money.

i follow this workflow, with some success :
° make the function/pin assignation with stmico tool microxplorer
(http://www.st.com/internet/com/SOFTWARE ... _setup.zip)
° write the board.h according to the config made with microxplorer for anything static
° use dynamic configuration only when static conf with board.h is not an option.
