VGA with STM32

Post by Giovanni »

I found this, it is not ChibiOS-related but still interesting, a single chip game console with VGA output: http://bitboxconsole.blogspot.in/

I imagine it is done using a DMA writing on GPIOB but I haven't examined the code yet.

Wow, just think what you could do with a STM32F429Discovery with its big external RAM!! I wonder if the LCD would get in the way....

Writing a VGA driver for the GDISP module of µGFX is actually on the ToDo list. I assume that this would be very useful. However it's ultra-low priority compared to other things on the ToDo list.
I got myself one of these. They have some very simple R2R-network to generate the analog voltages.
Without the required RAM, it's usually not fun to work with, because you can only write. Scrolling and other animations wouldn't be possible.

Demosceners already got it - at full speed ;) Everything done with a cheap F4 Discovery board and a trivial VGA adapter (DAC)

Well, that is impressive. Reminds me of the early farbrausch demos: http://www.farb-rausch.de/
