What do you think about mbed
I see that ARM is putting a considerable effort to promote mbed platform. It provides SDK, RTOS, and numerous libraries. I'm curious what do you guys think about it? Do you think it will gain popularity over current way of embeded development?
Re: What do you think about mbed
mbed seems to be Arduino for the smart ones. The Web IDE is feature-rich (it even includes Mercurial!), and as you said, the library is also quite rich. There are some irritating limitations on that platform, though. For instance, you can't use your own compiler. Yes, you have no need to, but if you want, you just can't. Also, the supported (fully supported) hardware list is not so rich. An mbed-enab led board didn't seem to connect to my FreeBSD machine correctly. mbed is a toy to look at what the real programming looks like. It's not as simple as Arduino, but it's way closer to a real development board and environment than the Arduino is (and could ever be).
