ChibiStudio Plugin in OSX

Post by jayalfredprufrock »

After many hours I finally got what appears to be a 100% functional eclipse setup for ChibiStudio on OSX yosemite. Only one small problem, the text shown within the tables in the ChibiOS 3.0 debug view is so small it's pretty much unreadable. This is likely because I'm using a macbook retina so my screen resolution is super high but all my other plugins don't have this issue. I dug around the eclipse preferences to see if there was a way to increase the font-size but it doesn't look like it's possible. I have zero experience with eclipse plugins, but it sounds like some plugins expose a css file that allows custom styling of the plugin. Any chance some kind of text-size customization could make it in to a future version of the ChibiOS 3 Debug view? Or perhaps there is some kind of configuration file I'm not seeing? Anyways, the fact that everything else works makes me a happy camper. Thanks for all your hard work :)

Hi,

There are no configurations, is it possible that this is caused by a font not present on Mac OS?

I haven't yet attempted the Eclipse plug-in configuration but I am using OSX for my development. If you can provide details on any tricks you had to perform to set this up, it would be greatly appreciated!

@mtc900, I mainly just followed the guide here: http://www.chibios.org/dokuwiki/doku.ph ... s:eclipse2

The most recent ChibiStudio (Preview 8) on eclipse Luna is what I modeled my OSX setup after. I took a stab at this with a previous version of ChibiStudio and eclipse and eventually got frustrated and moved back to my virtual machine. Not sure what I did differently this time around, but it seemed easier and other than the font issue I mentioned, it works just as good as my windows setup. :)

Make sure you add all the tools the makefile requires to your path. After installing them with brew I simply symlinked the binaries to usr/bin. Just make sure you can compile, flash, and debug from the OSX terminal before ever setting anything up in eclipse.

I also had to install OpenOCD 9 (Dev) to get my STM32F411RE Nucleo board working, as it uses a newer version of the St-Link /v2 firmware. This means you have to use the newer scripts that it comes packaged with as well.

Oh, and make sure to use the Legacy GDB Hardware Debugging option. This was mentioned in the guide I linked to I believe, and first time around I missed it and it prevented the ChibiStudio Debug View Plugin from working.

Finally, here is a list of Eclipse plugins you should install...

C/C++ GDB Hardware debugging (http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna)
ChibiOS/RT Eclipse Tools (http://www.chibios.org/eclipse/chibistudio/)
Eclipse XML Editors and Tools (http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna)
EmbSysRegView (http://embsysregview.sourceforge.net/update)

Good luck to you!

@Giovanni - Do you happen to know what font is being used on the plugin tables text?

I will look into the font issue, I have to ask to a friend of mine more expert in Eclipse programming. Could you post a screenshot?

Thanks Giovanni, like I said before, text appears normally for all my other custom plugins and I am using a 13" MacBook retina @ 2560x1600.

Is it the 'Legacy driver'? Because the guide says "Select “GDB Hardware Debugging→[debug]” then select “Standard GDB Hardware Debugging Launcher”. This will select the proper debugging mode when using various extensions plugins like the ChibiOS/RT debugging plugin."

Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the small font on Mac OSX.
It is not an issue of the retina display, since I have the problem also on a MacBook Air.
Is there any solution/workaround? Is it possible to change the font for the plugin?

Thanks!!

Hi,

I don't have a solution yet, I don't have a Mac for tests. If somebody wants to give it a try the plugins code is here: svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/chibios/svn/trunk

You need Eclipse for Java with plugins development extensions installed.
