ChibiStudio preview

Post by Giovanni »

I uploaded the preview here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chibio ... ibiStudio/

The installation is very simple:
- Unpack the archive as C:\ChibiStudio (do not change path)
- Copy the shortcut "Chibi Studio" under C:\ChibiStudio on your desktop.
- Launch.

The Atollic GDB server is not included but launch configurations for it are present, just unpack it under C:\ChibiStudio\tools. The latest OpenOCD is already present.

The launcher sets all the variables required, no need to do anything. Feedback welcome :-)

I was able to compile the ChibiOS demo for F4Discovery in 30-40mins  = 15min for the 300MB download, 5mins for latest Java runtime, 5-8mins to extract it, and a minute or two to compile (This a 3-4 year old laptop). No fancy plugin install, workspace configuration, compiler setting, ... All already done :) .

This is exactly what a beginner needs. Thanks a lot Giovanni for providing this package! Just throw in a few wizards, and we'll have the next $$$$ IDE killer.

I guess we need more publicity for this tool. You might want to make a link to this on the main page.

When can we expect a Linux package?

Cheers and Best Regards

It works nice :D
Qs:
1. when I edited the .bat file with my paths to D:/..(my preferred location) it did not opened properly..
What else needs to be edited? An option to place the package somewhere else would be a nice to have..
2. when I opened my workspaces out of chibistudio it opened my old (I am using juno+codebench) eclipse setup..
How to redirect/migrate my workspaces into the chibistudio?
Thanks.

Hi,

For it, You'll need to edit the start.bat file, replace C: with D: everywhere inside. It sets the PATH to the tools and coreutils.

To import your projects, use File > Import and select 'Existing projects into workspace'. I hope you'll do the rest

Best Regards

Abhishek,
editing the .bat is not enough, I did it (see my post)..
Workspace: what I (and maybe others too) need is to use the workspace located somewhere else (not in C:/chibistudio), as for example I use a central repo for all my dev files..
PS:
Workspace - how to create a workspace in ie C:\MyRepo\Chibios with all that chibiStudio settings preserved? :?
I can import my projects into it then, of course.

It is not so simple, this is why I recommend to use the standard location. There are a lot of paths in the Eclipse preferences, try to search C: in the .workspace.

@Pito, I guess you make a fresh new folder for the workspace and copy the .metadata folder from the default workspace into it. It contains the settings required. Then File > switch workspace > other... Although I know that it'll break if done this way, you'll have to do some adjustments.

The reason it's not working like that is because the folders have been hardcoded into the environment as C:\... I tried just now.

Giovanni, could I request you please try using relative pathnames while creating links? I think there's a chance it may work that way. BTW, did you try that passthrough driver?

All links I created are relative, there are two variables to set in the preferences with the toolchain root. Eclipse maintains some absolute paths in its metadata but that is out of my control.

. I've tried to copy manualy the metadata, as well as with the copy the workspace tempalate - with no luck. I am not lucky with import into the default chibistudio workspace, no idea why (as the existing project as well as makefile project)..

The project explorer by default shows only projects under working sets, newly imported/created projects are thus not shown, change the "Top Level Elements" mode from "Working Sets" to "Projects". It is done in the small menu above the project explorer. Then you can assign the projects to working sets if you want.

The two variables to set are under "Window->Preferences->General->Workspace-Linked Resources". The variables are named CHIBIOS and CHIBI_STUDIO, change them according to your installation path.
