I am taking into use a ChibiOS version 21.11.1 (it should be the latest, right?): https://osdn.net/projects/chibios/downl ... 1.11.1.7z/
My question: Need I use any generator etc. which generates configuration etc. files?

Hi,
All projects are based on makefiles, nothing needed except the compiler and the usual GNU utilities. There are generators for various things, example board files, those require a small tool named FMPP to be installed somewhere in the system path.
Everything needed is present in "ChibiStudio", you may start from downloading that and try things.
