I used Linux Mint 11 for quite sometime and found it useful, much more than ubuntu.

Anyways, This is really a great thing! If we do some branding stuff (Though I don't know if it'd be welcome to you, Giovanni), and add a new 'ChibiOS Project Wizard' to it, and with the code generation XML system already done (I'd prefer a dedicated UI), I guess we could launch chibiStudio - not just a collection of tools but a complete suite for Windows, Linux and Mac, with the community maintaining releases for the last two. I'm sure it would give some competition to the $$$$ IDE offerings (although we won't want it to compete).

Best Regards

Ok, I like ChibiStudio, it is official now :)

BTW, I am already working on a "New ChibiOS/RT Project" wizard and on a GUI on the configuration tool.

Thread moved in the new forum.

I use the same set of tools (Eclipse+openocd+yagarto+make+etc.) bot on winxp-32 and Win7-64 without any problems.

Install gnome-shell and select it at the login and your problems will go away :D

It is not like Gnome3 is any better. Too bad, Ubuntu 10.10 almost convinced me. Mint Linux is nice but it is going through and instability phase, both Mate and Cinnamon are not yet mature.

Then try Kubuntu.

I switched when Unity hapenned and am very happy with it.

I am having problems with OpenOCD. I am trying to use it with the STM32F4-Discovery board using the provided configuration file but I get this error when launching it:

Error: open failed
in procedure 'transport'
in procedure 'init'

And then OpenOCD terminates. Did anybody have any luck with this one?

The Atollic GDB server can still be used but it is proprietary, it would not be possible to include it in the package directly.

OK, the problem is that it requires a driver installed but in order to do that the normal ST-Link driver must be uninstalled first, it means that all the ST tools, uVision and IAR would stop working too... not an option for me.

I guess I will put a placeholder for the Atollic server that will have to be downloaded and installed separately.

I had used libusbdotnet some years ago, and remember that it supported both WUDF and libusb win32 drivers. The default ST-LINK v2 Driver is based on WUDF, but OpenOCD requires libusb to interface with it. That's why the conflict.

However, there seems to be a way out.

The libusb-win32 driver page on sourceforge : http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/libusb-win32/wiki has a filter driver which will allow any USB device to be accessed via libusb, no matter which driver it is using. Something like a passthrough.

Giovanni, Would you mind giving it a try and see if it works?

There's also another project for using STLINK v1 and v2, still in infancy, but could be useful for linux and Mac users (There's a mingw version too, but I'm not very enthusiastic about it, it too uses the same libusb driver as OpenOCD, might be some luck with that filter driver). Some of the members might be aware of it. Looks as an alternative to the Atollic's GDB server.

I will look into that passthrough driver as soon I have some time. A linux-only solution is not sufficient, also, usually Linux users are able to setup their own stuff :)
